World-renowned golfer Vijay Singh has slipped to No.6 in the latest world ranking but the former world No.1 has promised Fiji that he will be back in 2007.

Singh, who is in the country to inspect his very own design at the Natadola Golf and Ocean Club, is on a break after a hectic 2006 PGA Tour. The former Nadi Airport golfer had a dismal year winning only once at the Barclays Classic and has earned close to $5m from 27 tournaments. Singh said he was confident of reaching the top again and the latest world ranking will not stop him from winning next season.

“I’m hoping to start off strongly next year,” Singh said.

“I’m doing a lot of training now and I have my first tournament in the first week of January. I’m getting my game to where I want it to be.”

“I didn’t play the best this year but it doesn’t mean that I won’t win anymore.”
Singh’s first tournament next year will be in Hawaii during January 5-8 at the Mercedes Championships.A week later he will take the field again in Hawaii to compete for the Sony Open. “I’m not worried about it (No.6 ranking). I’m just excited to be here (Fiji) and I’m looking forward to next season,” Singh said.

“This is my break and I’m not bothered about it.”
Tiger Woods is still no.1 with fellow American Jim Furyk in second place in the world rankings. Phil Mickelson is third; Adam Scott of Australia is in fourth place and Retief Goosen is in fifth place. Singh has indicated that he still has another six years to go before he thinks about retiring.

“I still think I have a lot to give. I have only done it in small douses this year,” Singh said. “I feel strong and energized for next season.
“Each year everybody gets older but I get younger and I still have 5-6 more years to go. My focus is on playing the PGA and to the best of my ability.”
Singh jetted into the country early yesterday morning before heading straight for the Natadola Golf course. Singh leaves the country on Thursday and is expected back early next year to inspect the golf course.
